Preliminary Task - College Magazine

This is a front page of a "College Magazine" featuring a medium close-up shot of a model using a direct mode of address, which is when the person on the cover looks straight out of the magazine cover and in turn helps the media text create a relationship with the audience. There is a variety of fonts and bright, engaging, playful colours to attract the audience and to indicate that the magazine isn't entirely serious and is laid back.

Leading the main "motorbike" story of the issue, the quotation "I don't own a moped" is probably the first thing that people read as it distinguishes itself from the rest of the page by being white with a green background (this works because it isn't a common feature throughout the page). The quote is used to anchor the main story and establish to the audience what the issue is about.

Supplemented by less attention-grabbing but still readable (in block capitals, large, reasonably coloured) subheadings, the quote becomes relevant as you read the "Moped matt gets a motorbike" text and the piece ties together as a result. Lastly, a strapline is used to bring people's attention to an important but not entirely relevant point in the issue. It is styled differently to the rest of the page and is used mainly to try and attract people's attention if the rest of the page's elements haven't been entirely effective in their job or are not interesting to the viewer.
