Research Task - Kerrang! Magazine Cover

Using a powerful and recognisable font, the masthead "Kerrang!" text is large and placed in front of a black background to primarily stand out and to inform viewers of what to expect. Styled similarly but without the recognisable 'cracked' and 'grungy' font, the "BIFFY CLYRO" heading is used to further inform the audience of what is in the magazine and is used to hook in viewers who are interested in that band. This is different to the masthead which is cracked and grungy which visually indicates to viewers what to expect (a more rebellious scene of magazine) while the heading relies on the knowledge of the audience.

The medium shot, group photo of the band directly addresses the audience and successfully engages the audience. They are all at the same eye level as each other and this allows for observers to identify who they are quickly so as to allow them to connect with the intentions of the magazine issue more efficiently.

Leading the main story of the article, the caption "ROCK'S NEXT SUPERSTARS" is indicative of a new and up and coming 'thing' that readers may take an interest in, as, in music, it is common for people to want to keep up with new trends and to be aware of highly anticipated releases, tours, etc.

Furthermore, the again differently styled subheadings that refer to differing content to the main story, are styled in red and black instead of white and black so as to visually demonstrate their difference but still keeping in with the entire magazine theme by having a black background and sticking to the grungy font choice.

In addition, the relevant imagery (of Biffy Clyro's album art) is probably intentionally placed so as to instill the image of their album cover in people's minds so as to give them something to look for should they buy the music.
